(ENG) This bad looking animal has a pair of really long and thin legs like whips, that are used to find its prey. Thereafter it uses its impressive mandibles to hold the victim while eating it. (ESP) Este animal con mala pinta tiene un par de largas y finas patas cómo látigos con las que encuentra a sus presas, entonces usará sus potentes mandíbulas para sujetar a su víctima mientras la devora.

Yellow ambush crab spider

(ENG) Thomisidae, belonging to the family of the crab spiders, usually are experts in a strategical way to hunt called the ambush predation. This means to hold out and wait for their victims. The spider shown in the picture had the same color like the plant's stamens. (ESP) Thomisidae, la familia de las arañas cangrejo se caracteriza por ser expertos en una forma estratégica de cazar, la emboscada, es decir, sentarse y esperar. Esta de la foto tenía el mismo color de los estambres de la planta.

(ENG) This spider was really small, so at first the only thing I could see were some red spots of light in the night. I had to take a picture to realize that the lights were reflections on the spider's abdomen. (ESP) Esta araña era muy pequeña, Pude ver unos puntos rojos de luz en la noche, tuve que sacar una foto para entender que eran reflejos en el abdomen de la araña.

Aphantochilus rogersi (Spider) mimics Cephalotes atratus (Ant)

(ENG) On the right in the picture you can see an Aphantochilus rogersi spider, who mimics perfectly the ants of the species Cephalotes atratus, what permits it to move undetected in between the ants, select its prey and kidnap it in order to eat it in a calm place. The goal of mimicking the Cephalotes ant body shape, is not to trick the ants, due to ants are almost blind and use mostly their pheromone smell sense, but it is to fool on its natural predators, who will think that the spider is just another ant, therefore the spider gets food and protection from the ant colony. (ESP) A la derecha puede verse una araña de Aphantochilus rogersi la cual imita a la perfección a las hormigas de la especie Cephalotes atratus, la araña camina libremente entre las hormigas, escoge a su víctima y la secuestra para comérsela en un lugar tranquilo. El objetivo de imitar la forma corporal de las hormigas Cephalotes no es engañar a las hormigas, dado que las hormigas son prácticamente ciegas y viven en un mundo sensorial basado en el olor de feromonas, lo que hacen con esa apariencia es engañar a sus depredadores naturales, los cuales pensaran que se trata de otra hormiga. de esta forma la araña obtiene comida y protección del hormiguero.

Gladiator "web-throwing" spider (Deinopis sp.)

(ENG) The gladiator spider can make an expandable sticky web like a net. When an insect passes below it, it stretches out the net, lunges downwards and flings the net over the prey. Usually the gladiator spider make these webs standing on top of a big and clean leaf in order to avoid catching leaf litter in the trap. (ESP) La araña gladiadora puede hacer una red de telaraña elástica y muy resistente que arrojará a los insectos que pasen por debajo suya. Generalmente construyen estas redes encima de hojas grandes y limpias para evitar atrapar hojarasca en su trampa.
