Red abdomen digger wasp (Prionyx sp.)

(ENG) Prionyx parasitoids wasps are a genus of Sphecidae family. These are solitary wasps, each individual female making her own nest digging in the soil. They will hunt other insects and bury them alive in the nest as food for their larvae. This wasp actively carries their victims to a storage site rather than leaving them. This behavior probably evolved to protect the wasp’s offspring and their food from predators and parasites.
